Well, we survived the trip. We left Atlanta at around 9PM on Thursday and got to Buenos Aires at 9AM on Friday. Buenos Aires is 2 hours ahead of us, so it was really 7AM Atlanta time. Thankfully, all our bags made it! Since our flight was not until 3:20PM we decided to take a tour of Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires has 14 million people so it is bigger than either New York or Los Angeles. Its summer in Buenos Aires and the weather was beautiful. We saw soccer fields everywhere and went to lunch in small artsy place called La Boca. We saw Tango dancers and all kinds of arts and crafts. The houses were painted with many different colors, a historical tradition from workers painting their houses with paint left over from painting ships that had made port there. We were all tired and glad to make our way to the domestic airport for our 3:20PM flight.
Our flight stopped in Rio Gallegos and Dad almost had us get off. He was clearly tired and confused. It was flat and looked like a prairie. The flight to Ushuaia was 40 more minutes. Ushuaia is completely different. The scenery was unbelievable with snow covered mountains and water everywhere. We finally got to bed at close to midnight.
Today, we took a quick tour of The World. The ship is wonderful with lots to keep us busy (games rooms, tennis court, pools, art rooms, library, etc). There are 320 guests on the boat and everyone is excited about our trip to Antarctica. We also walked around Ushuaia. It’s much smaller than Buenos Aires with only 70,000 inhabitants. Ushuaia is Fin Del Mundo . . . “end of the world”. There is not city farther south than Ushuaia. We had lunch and bought a couple of t-shirts. We are amazed with the weather. It’s nearly 70 degrees here.
